The Development Wheel

The Development Wheel  is the online platform which delivers our Healthy Learning, Healthy Lives (HLHL) programme. The wheel is secure, easy to use, and allows real time updates and communication between the City of Doncaster Council Public Health Team and our settings.

More information on the Wheel can be found on the  Healthy Learning, Healthy Lives Development Wheel page!

The Local Authority Network

The HLHL local authority network is made up of Local Authorities across England who have purchased the programme.

There are currently 5 local authorities within the network:

  • City of Doncaster Council
  • Barnsley Council
  • East Riding of Yorkshire Council
  • Herefordshire Council
  • Southend Council

The HLHL Local Authority Network meets quarterly, as a community of improvers, to share learning and best practice delivering the Healthy Learning, Healthy Lives programme for our early years and education settings.

What do education settings say about HLHL?

Find out more about the impact of HLHL for our education settings on the case studies page!

Here are some quotes from Doncaster settings who have completed the HLHL programme:

‘’It’s given us a reason to pursue a focus on a whole school approach that really does serve to help the children.’’

‘… we’re more on the ball now and the kids really want to do it, so every day the kids are doing table tennis and things and the wellbeing walk, which we only introduced when we came to do the HLHL’’

Evaluation of the HLHL programme

In 2019, the CYPF PH team commissioned an independent evaluation of the HLHL prgamme by The Centre of Nutrition RDaSH.

To evaluation focused on the following outcomes in relation to Healthy Learning, Healthy Lives:

  1. Changes in policy, practice, culture and environment.
  2. Acceptability and usability of the programme (tool, website and any PH support)
  3. Professionals’ perceptions of the value of the programme for improving outcomes related to the 4 areas, e.g. Diet, Activity, PHSE and Emotional Health and Wellbeing.

More information on the findings of evaluation can be found here!
