Healthy Learning, Healthy Lives Evaluation

The Healthy Learning, Healthy Lives (HLHL) programme was created by Doncaster Council to improve the health and wellbeing of children and their families throughout the borough. Launched in January 2018, the programme comprises an online evaluation tool and awards programme with a website for sources of information, advice and guidance and support from the Public Health team. The programme assists learning environments with the application of policies and procedures that improve the lives of young people in Doncaster. Through the achievement of the HLHL award, educational settings are supported to meet a range of local and national priorities that benefit local families and their community.

In order to analyse the strengths and weaknesses of the tool as well as the effectiveness of the intervention, the Doncaster Council Public Health team commissioned the Grounded Research Department, at RDaSH to carry out an independent evaluation in the 2018-19 academic year.

The evaluation consisted of a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the Healthy Learning, Healthy Lives programme. Four semi-structured interviews and twenty self-administered questionnaires were completed.

We thank the staff from the settings for taking part and contributing their experiences and views to the evaluation.
