New survey for all education settings

Learn Sheffield are leading a project commissioned by the South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit called Effective Preventive Knife Crime Education (EPKCE)

Learn Sheffield are a not for profit schools company focused on school improvement.

They are leading a project commissioned by the South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit called Effective Preventive Knife Crime Education (EPKCE)

The outputs in the form of advice, lesson plans and small group interventions will be available to all Education settings in South Yorkshire (Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield) and will be rooted in the evidence of the Youth Endowment Fund Toolkit.

As described, we are starting with a survey of all education settings to inform the whole project.  We would be grateful if you would complete the survey in the link below and/or distribute it to education settings in your area. For this project to be effective and reflect the whole of South Yorkshire we will need as many inputs as possible from settings across the county. This includes Primary, Secondary, Tertiary Settings , Special,  AP’s and PRU’s

We are more than happy to receive more than one input from the same school from either Senior Leaders, Safeguarding Leaders, Behavioural Leaders and PD/RSHE curriculum leads.

We anticipate that the survey should take between 15 and 20 minutes.

Effective Preventative Knife Crime Education:

Outputs will include:

- High-quality lesson resources for KS2, KS3 and KS4 on knife crime education and prevention.

- Resources for small group sessions and signposting to evidence-based interventions for young people who may be at more risk of knife crime.

- Guidance for schools on behaviours and attitudes  that may indicate that a young person may be more at risk of carrying a knife or being in environments where knife crime is more prevalent. - The production of Local Social Stories that can be used in preventative education.

- Guidance to schools on factors to consider when employing external providers on knife crime education including victim-led initiatives and signposting to successful 1-1 interventions for young people, who are likely to become involved in such crime.

The project will involve:

- Analysing the results of this survey.

- Undertaking interviews with key staff in schools across South Yorkshire (these will typically include senior leaders, Designated Safeguarding Leads,. behaviour leads or PD/PHSE leads). - Undertaking interviews with youth justice professionals across South Yorkshire.

- Undertaking small group student voice activities in schools.

- Working with specialist teachers and youth workers to produce lesson and small group plans and activities.

- Trialling and evaluating these resources in schools and youth settings.

- Producing a final report and leading a seminar to disseminate the results of the project as widely as possible across South Yorkshire.

The contents of this survey are confidential, and no individual school or setting will be named in any report or presentation during or at the end of the project. The survey is targeted at senior leaders, designated safeguarding leads, behaviour leads or PD/PHSE leads or similar. We are keen to gather as many different perspectives as possible and would welcome multiple responses from settings.

For this project to be effective and reflect the whole of South Yorkshire we will need as many inputs as possible from settings across Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield. This includes Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Settings. Please feel free to forward this survey on to other settings. We would also appreciate any schools who would volunteer their time. You can do this later in the survey.
