Clean Your Hands...5th May 2020
A reminder of the importance of good hygiene measures for WHO Hand Hygiene Day - SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands 5 May 2020
Handwashing... a simple act that can make all the difference!
Each day, our hands come into contact with numerous items, surfaces and people. Even though we may not realise it, germs are constantly accumulating on our hands. These tiny but powerful organisms cannot be seen with the naked eye, but many illnesses are spread by not cleaning hands properly after touching contaminated objects or surfaces.
Of course, it’s impossible to keep our hands completely germ-free, but following good hygiene measures of washing hands at least after going to the toilet, coming into contact with animals, handling rubbish and when preparing and eating food can make a big difference.
This is a reminder to encourage and support regular handwashing in settings; encouraging children to develop these habits can go a long way toward protecting their health, your health and that of those around us.
There are a number of child friendly resources to help do this including this NHS child friendly song explaining how to wash your hands here.
Posters can also be displayed in and around children and staff toilets, and in food preparation and serving areas and shared with parents through newsletters, on websites and social media to encourage the same behaviours at home. There are some examples below. Or you could get the children to design their own.
A note that the Healthy Learning, Healthy Lives Accreditation includes criteria relating to dining environment and healthy mealtime behaviours and so sharing of this guidance can be used as evidence for the award.
