RSE Day - 25th June 2020

An annual celebration of excellent Relationships and Sex Education that educates children and young people about healthy relationships and positive sexual health.

RSE Day  is on 25 June 2020. It is an annual celebration of excellent Relationships and Sex Education that educates children and young people about healthy relationships and positive sexual health. RSE Day encourages schools and the wider community to get involved.

What are the principles of RSE Day?

  • RSE helps keep children safe – this is based on evidence
  • RSE lessons should be enjoyable and useful / relevant
  • RSE happens in school and at home
  • RSE involves communication between people
  • RSE involves people of different ages and starts young to support life-long learning

How did RSE Day begin?

RSE Day is the original idea of Nottingham City Council.  The first RSE day took place on 28 June 2018. To build on the success of the first RSE day, Nottingham City Council are working in partnership with the Sex Education Forum to increase the profile of the day across the country.

What is the aim of RSE Day?

The overall aim of RSE Day is to improve the quality and reach of relationships and sex education provided for children and young people by celebrating good practice RSE on an annual national day. Good quality RSE needs to happen all year round, with a planned curriculum, but 25 June is an opportunity to start new conversations and share what you are doing with others.

What does the research say?

Research shows that excellent RSE supports the wellbeing of, and helps to safeguard, children and young people. Research shows that RSE is more effective when home and school are involved. The Sex Education Forum has produced briefings on the evidence  and regularly consults young people about the quality of their RSE.

What happens on RSE Day?

On 25 June 2020, schools, teachers, young people, families and the wider community are invited to:
