Live, work or play in Stainforth?

Exciting opportunity for 'Shaping Stainforth'

Doncaster Council, supported by our local partners, is taking part in a project called Shaping Places for Healthier Lives.  It will take place between January and May 2021 and will involve exploring what affects the mental health of people living in Stainforth.

This project aims to improve people’s lives by tackling the “wider determinants of health”. The wider determinants of health include a range of factors that affect our health and shape our daily lives. They include our jobs, money, education, our community and social networks, our homes, our streets, communities and the natural environment. We are very interested in the wider determinants of mental health as we know that our mental health is better if those “wider determinants” are better. For example, we are more likely to have good mental health if we have enough money, a job or voluntary work, interests and social activities, a safe and suitable home and friends and family. This is sometimes described as “Somewhere to live, something to do and someone to love”.

We want to work with people who live and/or work in Stainforth to understand what affects people’s mental health and wellbeing locally. Local people are already experts so everyone’s opinions, experiences and knowledge is welcome and valued.  Once we have done this, we will develop a plan for the next stage, using what we have found out to change and influence what is planned in the local area in the future, so that where we live helps us have the best mental health possible.
